The Barbershop
Reel Playbook

A 60-second cinematic before/after reel that turns an invisible barbershop into the most talked-about spot in the city. This is the StreetDominion methodology — packaged as a production template for any local service business.

Duration: 60 seconds · Client: Fictional / Template · Deliverable: Cinematic Before/After Reel
STREETDOMINION TEMPLATE v1.0

Invisible to Untouchable in 60 Seconds

The reel follows the transformation arc: a customer walks into what looks like just another barbershop — dim lighting, no personality, ghost-level Google presence. Then: the cut. Cinematic reveal. The shop is transformed — the barber becomes a character, the space becomes a stage, the content becomes a statement. By the end, you're not thinking "nice barbershop." You're thinking "I need to go there."

BEFORE (0:00 – 0:25)
  • Wideshot — shop exterior, mundane signage, street noise
  • Customer enters — no music, no energy, just service
  • Closer: barber goes through the motions, predictable cut
  • Cut stays flat, lighting is clinical, no texture
  • End on: "Same shop. Same cut. Same story." — text overlay
AFTER (0:25 – 0:60)
  • Music drop — hard cut, single spotlight on barber
  • Slow-motion scissors, cape snap, confident energy
  • Customer reaction — mirror shot, transformation visible
  • Shop details: clipper close-ups, gold tools, the craft
  • End on: "THIS is what dominance looks like." — CTA

Visual Narrative Map

0:00–0:25
WIDE EXTERIOR — plain shop, dead street
"Invisible"
Dull color grading, flat contrast, desaturated — the visual language of irrelevance
0:25
BLACK — single spotlight flicker
"The Turn"
Build tension before the drop. 2-second pause maximum. Music drop must feel earned.
0:25–0:52
WIDE + CLOSE — gold-lit shop, slow-mo craft shots
"Dominant"
Warm color grading, gold highlights, rich contrast — visual language of confidence and quality
0:52–0:60
EXTERIOR — lit shop, social energy, brand card
"Act Now"
CTA must be immediate. Do not let the energy die before the call-to-action lands.
Color grading shift: Before = desaturated, flat, clinical. After = warm gold highlights, rich shadows, cinematic depth. The contrast IS the transformation. The viewer's emotional response to the color shift mirrors the client's business transformation.

3 SEO-Optimized Caption Templates

Variation A — Bold/Direct
For TikTok + Reels (hook-first)
They went from invisible to untouchable in 60 seconds. That's not a glow-up — that's a complete business transformation. Same barbers, same location, completely different energy. This is what happens when you actually commit to your brand. 📍 Tag your barber. #BarbershopTransformation #LocalBusiness #BeforeAfter #BarberLife #SmallBusinessGrowth #LocalSEO #BarbershopMarketing #StreetDominance

Variation B — Story-Driven
For Instagram Feed + Story (narrative)
The shop was there for 7 years. Nobody knew it existed. 60 days later? Standing-room only on Saturdays. This is the difference between having a Google listing and having a digital presence. We're not talking about a new shop — we're talking about the same barbers, same chairs, same neighborhood. The only thing that changed: they stopped blending in. 📍 [Shop Handle] · [City, State] #Barbershop #LocalMarketing #BusinessTransformation #InstagramGrowth #LocalSearch #ShopLocal #ContentMarketing #SEO #SmallBusiness

Location tagging: Always tag the business's Google Maps location + city + neighborhood. This is how you show up in local search. Pair with a link-in-bio to the Google Business Profile.

Client Delivery Template

This process scales to any local service business. Barbershop, restaurant, auto shop — the template stays the same. The only variable is the script and location details.

Phase 1
Discovery & Brief
  • Client intake call: understand the business, the pain point, the goals
  • Audit current digital presence (Google, TikTok, Instagram)
  • Identify the transformation — what does "before" and "after" look like?
  • Confirm shoot location, key talent (barber/stylist), and client personality
Output: Creative brief, shot list finalization, shoot schedule
Phase 2
Script & Storyboard
  • Custom script per client using this template as the structure
  • Finalize storyboard with color grading direction
  • Select music — mood must match transformation arc
  • Confirm caption variations (A/B/C) and target platforms
Output: Final script, approved storyboard, music track, caption draft
Phase 3
Production (On-Site Shoot)
  • 2–4 hour shoot, minimum 3 cameras (wide + gimbal + close-up)
  • Capture ALL "after" content in one session — lights, energy, personality
  • Grab B-roll: shop exterior, tools, social proof items (reviews on wall, etc.)
  • Brief talent: the barber IS the star — no acting, just confidence and craft
Output: Raw footage — minimum 60 minutes of usable content
Phase 4
Edit & Color Grade
  • Assembly cut following shot list timestamps
  • Apply color shift: "before" = desaturated flat; "after" = warm gold cinematic
  • Music sync: hard cut on beat drop at the transformation moment
  • Add text overlays — hook at 0:18, CTA at 0:52
  • Export for TikTok (9:16), Instagram Reels (9:16), and YouTube Shorts (9:16)
Output: 3 platform-ready cuts + behind-the-scenes short
Phase 5
Publish & Amplify
  • Post reel on TikTok + Instagram simultaneously (0:00 EST or 7:00 PM local)
  • Use caption Variation A for TikTok, B for Instagram, C for YouTube Shorts
  • Pin the reel to Google Business Profile posts
  • Run targeted boost: $20/day for 3 days — target 25-mile radius, 18–45 male
